About Disaster.lk

Disaster.lk is a platform to provide information on Disasters, Hazards monitoring and predictions and the use of this information for mitigation of risks and adaptation in resource management.

This platform supports decision making through provision of historical, monitoring and prediction information of hazards and its drivers. The majority of the disasters in Sri Lanka are driven through climate. We use ICT to store information, access remotely sensed information, assimilate data from our own sensor networks for weather, air quality and soil conditions. We also bring together satellite sensed and data generated by models in global centers.

The information provided is based on science-based projects undertaken by the Federation for Environment, Climate and Technology which comprises Foundation for Environment, Climate and Technology, Disaster Services and 5 others organizations). The audience for this portal shall be the vulnerable communities, resource managers, local government and school and university students.
